Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after presenter and has presented speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a early time. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level she launched the Feminist Frequency site. The ambitious lady planned to start a web-based series examining gender-based representations in video games. However, she found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The attack did not stop her, rather it strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. She is a recipient of several awards for her contributions to feministism.
